Students investigate, examine, and write monthly articles addressing current issues and events at CATS Academy Boston. Who can join Newspaper Club?

Anyone can join! Whether you want to be a reporter or a photographer, you are welcome at the CATS Academy Courier. We are always looking to add writers and photographers to our team!

What can I write about for the school newspaper?

You can write about any topic you want! Interview a new teacher, give your opinion on a new school policy, review a movie or book, write about our sports teams, and so on. The choice is yours!

How many articles would I be expected to write?

Our reporters usually write at least 1 article for every edition of the CATS Academy Courier. If you want to write fewer articles, you can be a contributing writer!

When does the Newspaper Club meet?

The Newspaper Club now meets afterschool twice a week! Stop by RM 214 every Monday and Wednesday from 4:00pm – 5:00pm for a meeting.

Why should I join the Newspaper Club?

There are many reasons to add Newspaper Club to your list of afterschool activities:

  • Learn how to be a newspaper journalist (especially if you are thinking about majoring or minoring in journalism/English in college!)
  • Sharpen your English reading, writing, and public speaking skills
  • Stand out on college applications
  • Increase your involvement in the school community
  • Make your voice as a CATS Academy Boston student heard!

How do I join the Newspaper Club?

Here are a few ways you can become a member of the Newspaper Club:

  • Swing by for a Meeting: The Newspaper Club meets twice a week from 4:00pm – 5:00pm in RM 214 on Monday and Wednesday. Feel free to stop by!
  • Sign-Up on the Bulletin Board: Write your name and email address on the Newspaper Sign-Up Sheet located on the Newspaper Club bulletin board outside of RM 214. A Faculty Advisor will contact you shortly!
  • Contact the Faculty Advisors: Email Miss Brown (dbrown@catsboston.com) or Mrs. Bowen (bbowen@catsboston.com) to express your interest in being a part of the school newspaper!

I am struggling to write my article for the newspaper. What should I do?

While the CATS Courier faculty advisors are always willing to help you and answer your questions (just email them or stop by a Club meeting to discuss your article in person!), you can also view article templates, worksheets, and examples on the website. Take a look at the many resources here.

How do I know when articles are due?

There are a few ways to stay updated on CATS Courier deadlines:

  • Check your Email: The Newspaper Club Faculty Advisors will email all newspaper staff members to remind them of upcoming deadlines. So make sure you check your email regularly!
  • Read the CATS Courier Bulletin Board: The bulletin board outside RM 214 , including meeting times, deadlines, upcoming newspaper information, and contact information. Check it out to learn more about the CATS Courier!

How do I submit my newspaper article?

Please create and share a Googledoc with your newspaper article with either of the Newspaper Club faculty advisors.

When will the next edition of the CATS Courier be published?

Check out the Calendar Countdown on on the sidebar of the website to find out when the next edition of the CATS Courier will be published! It tells you how many days are left until new newspaper articles are released!

Can I view past issues of the CATS Academy Courier?

Yes! In addition to all newspaper articles being available online, you can read and download PDF versions of past CATS Academy Courier editions here.

My family members/friends do not speak English. Can they still read my newspaper article?

There is a Google Translate option on the sidebar of this website. Anyone can use it to read translated versions of articles in their preferred language!
